Girls Room Painted and More than Halfway Complete

Over the weekend, my hubby and I painted the girls room. Finally!
I was a bit nervous when the first coat of paint went on because the color wasn't what I was picturing in my mind, but once we finished putting up 2 coats and it dried, it turned out to be the perfect pale pink paint color I originally hoped for.

This time, I picked out a Benjamin Moore color. That was a first for me. But after seeing BM's Mellow Pink multiple times online and on some blogs, I figured to just go for it and stop deliberating between more colors. I didn't even buy a sample!

I did however have this paint color matched at The Home Depot because I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a smaller room. I have heard wonderful things about Benjamin Moore, and maybe some day I will use it, but I still love and stand by Sherwin Williams paints. They are great! Covers in one coat and with their sales running constantly, you can get a really good deal.

Also, the reason why I didn't choose a SW pink paint for their room was because I kept going back to BM's Mellow Pink and really really wanted to try it out. Plus, the girls LOVE it! They wanted a room with pink and blue accents, and I think we got that covered so far.

There are still a few more little tweaks and things to make in the next month, but it is coming together nicely and more importantly, the girls are happy with the way their room is turning out.

So enough about all those details already, let's get to some pictures, shall we?!

Here is a before:

Walls needed a fresh coat of paint and that light/fan fixture. Just.don't.know. But I really dislike it. It's on the list of things to update.

Here are some after shots of their room and where we are at with it right now.

Someone decided to lay on her sister's bed with a banana while big sis was napping downstairs. ;)

This corner of the room is one of my favorites.
The girls love putting books and/or baby dolls in the cradle and they love sitting on the rocking chair while reading some of their favorite books.

The circle wall hangings were made of construction paper with a circular die-cut I bought at Michael's.
The bookshelf is an oldie that we use for toys and stuffed animals. I painted the back with a sample of Sherwin Williams Comical Coral.

The girls curtains are actually twin bed sheets I cut in half. They are from Wal-Mart and were an inexpensive way to add some color and texture.

The letters hanging are from Michaels. I still need to paint Lydia's letters.

The shelf between their beds is actually a towel holder that we got as a wedding gift more than 6 years ago. It now holds the girls books.

The lamp was a crazy thrift store purchase. I literally spend 75cents on it!!! No joke! I should have bought a TON more because they were getting rid of these lamps but I only purchased two at the time. Eh, you live and you learn.

The girls headboards are from a thrift store in Williamsburg. I painted them with Sherwin Williams Silver Strand at 75% (which means it is a lighter strength/color than the original color you can buy).

The wall shelf is another thrift store find from a Williamsburg shop.
The hat with a purple ribbon is from Colonial Williamsburg. The girls picked that out last year.

There are still some more things I would like to do with this room before calling it done.
I would like to update the light fixture I try not to take pictures of and there are just some other minor tunings to complete, but I think we are more than half-way done with this room and that makes us all happy. :)

Hope everyone stays warm this weekend. We are going to get more snow tomorrow night. Looking forward to some of that warmer weather that is to come!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday to Our Stinker

Today is the day!

The day that our youngest turns 2!

 Snow Day!

The first year flew by so quickly, I cannot believe you are 2 already. It's funny because in my mind you have been two for a little while. Partly because you have picked up so many things early. You were talking early, completing sentences early on, and even helping out with chores around the house...all well before turning 2. You have even expressed interest in potty training, but mommy isn't ready for that yet...I guess you can call that laziness. ;)  Try not to pick up on that habit too much. :)

Anyways, I would like to write you a quick little note for your birthday....so here it goes!

Dear Lydia,

In these last two years, you have surprised us by how quickly you learn and pick up on things. You are so loved by God and by us...may you never forget that! You add such a fun excitement to life (as the last picture will show) with your awesome dancing skills and singing parties that you insist on daily. You are VERY musical...there was a long period of time where we always had to have music playing during every car ride. If it wasn't on, you made sure to let us know in ways I won't get into here. ;) Your favorite songs include, Twinkle Little Star, ABC's, and Row Your Boat. You are not a fan of watching TV but if there is a musical cartoon on, you are all in.
You also love counting to 12 and I am sure have picked up all of this because of your older sister. You two are quite the pair and you really love watching everything she does. You look up to her in a way. But you also try new things when she won't and it encourages her to give new things a try. Thank you for making us laugh on a daily basis and for loving big. We can't imagine life without you. Happy birthday sweet little one! We love you so much!

Oh and a few more things, this picture shows the expression of excitement you often make for even the tiniest of things. You just can't contain your happiness. This particular picture was taken as you watched the garbage truck drive thru our neighborhood to pick up the trash. You were so thrilled about it! If only we could always be this happy about life in general all the time....well, you teach us just that and we are so grateful. Muah!

Adding Some More Pink to the Girls' Bedroom

With all of the snow we have been getting here this week, my family and I were getting a little bit of cabin fever and decided to venture out to Home Depot yesterday. It was actually a pretty good trip and the roads were pretty safe. (And don't worry, we had a few play dates for the girls and even built a cute little snowman the other day...so they had some fun!)

At Home Depot, I decided to ask if they could color match a Benjamin Moore paint color for me. They said "Yes!" and it's something I have never done before, but I really didn't want to splurge on a BM gallon of paint so I decided to just go for it. I handed the lady the color swatch and she said they already had it in their computer, so she mixed up a gallon of BM's Mellow Pink for me (a color I have been wanting to get for their room for a while) and I can't wait to get it on the walls of their bedroom.

It is a very pale pink with a hint of peach to it and I think it will be perfect for their space. They said they wanted a pink room so I decided to just go for it. This color is so beautiful in person and the pictures I have seen of it really make it look like you can't go wrong with this one. After all, it's a pale pink and not an in your face pink...it's soft and sweet.

Here's to hoping we can get the painting done by this weekend...and I will just ignore that there are like a million other projects to do around here. ;)

Thanks for stopping by!
I will be back tomorrow with a birthday post for our youngest.

Funny Things Kids Do/Say

I know I normally share DIY posts and other things related, but today I just had to share something my youngest did that still makes my husband and I both laugh whenever we think about it. You see, she is quite the comedian and has a ton of character that I just can't get enough of, but this short story is one for the books!

A couple of days ago, I took both of my daughters to the Dollar Tree to use some of their Valentine's money that they got from their Mema and Poppie and told them they could each pick out 3 things. (At their age, I always try to have a quick chat with them about what we are going to be getting at the store and how they should act. Sometimes it seems to work, and other times, it is a work in progress). Anyways, make our first stop down the toy aisle and Tessa (my oldest) is getting all excited trying to figure out what she is going to buy. Lydia, on the other hand, didn't look too interested in the toys. I said, "Lydia, you can pick out some toys if you like."
She wanders down the aisle to the bathroom section. (Now I'm not sure why some of the bathroom items are part of the toy aisle, but hey, it sure caught my youngest's attention!)

Our conversation went like this as we walked down the aisle:

Lydia: "Ooh, Dora! I want these!"
Me: "Lydia, those are tissues. Even though Dora is on the package, I don't think you really want those tissues right?"
Lydia: "Yes, I do!"
Me: "Ok."

She looks around some more at the Dollar Tree and finds 2 more things.

Lydia: "Ooh! Minnie Mouse!"
Me: "Lydia, honey, those are q-tips. Minnie Mouse's picture is just on the container. Do you really want those?"
Lydia: "Yes!!"

She wanders a couple inches over as she spots something else exciting that catches her eye.

Lydia: "Ooh! And Elmo!"
Me: "Lydia, those are baby diaper wipes. Really?   *Quick pause*   So you want to buy tissues, q-tips, and diaper wipes with the money you got??"
Lydia: "Yes!!"

In the end, she managed to put those items back and was able to pick out 2 toys and a Valentine's balloon. I just had to share though because although Lydia does a lot of things that are funny and make us laugh, I thought this story was priceless and one to remember. She's a character with a ton of energy that I wish I could just bottle up and keep for myself to use when I need it!
And she will be turning 2 in a week!! Excited to be celebrating another year of her!!

Happy Thursday everyone!!
