Selling a Desk

Hi there!

It has been a busy weekend for us with family in town, but it has been fun!
I wanted to pop in today to mention that I will be selling the desk today I made over a few weeks ago.

To give you an example of how it looks, I am posting some pictures.
If I can find the before photo, I will post that sometime, but for now, here are some pictures of the dresser all updated. :)

And here are some pictures of the desk with a little more accessorizing.

I used pretty much everything I already had on hand except for one part...and that was the moulding I used on the sides as a border for the beadboard.

It has been hand-painted and the top has a chalkboard section perfect for notes and messages. It works great as a writing desk or a kid's desk.

I love the whole look and it turned out quite fabulous!
It will be going to a good home and I can't wait to get my hands on another desk/dresser in the future.

I hope you all have a fantastic Monday.
We are going to be spending some more time with family today and getting out to enjoy this beautiful weather!

Thanks for stopping by!

Our girls can't wait for their grandparents to visit..and we have many fun places to take them too!

Because of that, I will be blogging a bit during the week but not my usual amount.

I have some fun projects to share and I will be posting about those soon!

I hope you enjoy your week and can get out and enjoy this weather!
We are having some great Spring weather finally and can't help but take it all in.

I also want to leave you with a few pictures that inspired me today to complete a project...upholstered coffee tables!
I love them and their look is so classic.

He Is Risen!!

Happy Easter everyone!!

I wanted to pop in to say that I hope everyone has a lovely Easter and truly remembers what this day is all about.
I admit that I have had other things on my mind lately- like projects and the like- instead of looking to the cross on a daily basis. In moments like that, I feel convicted and have to turn to the One who made me new.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3

Jesus is Lord of all and I am so grateful of the gift of life he has given me!
I hope to really dwell and think on these things today and every day, really.

I do need to be constantly reminded of his love for me and the penalty he paid for my sins!

Happy Easter!
He is Risen!!

Entryway Lighting

Happy Friday!!
Woot woot!

We have a fun weekend ahead of us...
we have dinner plans with some families tonight and on Easter Sunday we are headed to another families home for lunch. It should be fun. :)

I am back today to share with you about one of the projects I completed last week.

To start, our entryway use to look like this:

YIKES!!!!!

Don't mind the shine to those doors...I had just finished painting them when this photo was taken and the paint hadn't dried yet. Ha!

I changed out the light fixture and added a mirror that I found at the thrift store and painted in this pretty green color.

Here is what I did.
I took down our old light and purchased one on clearance at Target for a really inexpensive price.
I had some green spray paint that I wanted to use and painted the light shade (it was purple and blue damask before- not my style).

I was going to leave the shade just plain green, but I felt it needed something else.
I cut out two triangle shapes using some cardboard we had from a cereal box and traced onto the shade.

I didn't really take my time on this...I needed it done quickly, but I actually like how it turned out!

I hung some crystals from the shade (they were a gift from my mom last year) and put it up!
LOVE!

I love how it looks with our mirror too!
It's bold and beautiful!!

And I think the green pairs nicely with our gray doors.

That's one of the quick projects I wanted to share with you all...there will be more next week.

As always, thanks for stopping by!

Some New Projects

Hi there!

As I sit typing this post, it is raining outside...in fact, it has been raining on and off here pretty much all throughout the day. Boo!

But I have been told that the weather is going to start cooling off again and the sun will come out!
Hooray!

The months have seemed a little different this year weather-wise, but it will be nice to finally see the Spring weather sun and the flowers bloom.
My family and I are headed out this weekend to look at some flowers for the house and we are pretty excited about it. I'm on the lookout for some hydrangeas. I've seen a few of them at The Home Depot, but I really want to find some at our Farmer's Market.
Can't wait!!

In other news, I have some little projects going on around the house....again, nothing special or too "big" to reveal but just enough to freshen things up around here.

I am going to snap some photos this week to get them posted and am pretty excited about that.

The pictures to come in the next couple of days have nothing to do with the horses you see pictured above...just F.Y.I. ;)

I just snapped this photo sometime last year (maybe the early fall?) and really LOVE it...I don't think I have ever posted it before...so here it is folks!

Can't wait to share some of our changes with you all...

Stay tuned and thanks for stopping by!

Coffee Table Styling

One of my favorite parts about home design is decorating.

I love to build things, don't get me wrong, but I have come to love and enjoy decorating a finished product. After all, it is the styling that draws peoples attention to something if done right.

I am not expert...and I always say that...but I am learning and bit by bit am finding the style that is right for me and my family.

I am here to share with you how I styled our coffee table with things we already had around the house. I find that to be the most productive and sensible way to decorate our home anyways.

I love emerald green- so it's been sprinkled throughout our home recently.

I also can't wait to get my hands on some 'real' hydrangeas because I've heard that if you let them dry out, they keep longer and still look beautiful!

Here's to spring!!

Sneak Peek at Decorating a Coffee Table

Hi friends!

I hope you got to spend a little time outdoors this weekend to enjoy the lovely weather.
It has been so wonderful here- and getting out with some friends this weekend was what we needed!

I am back today to share a sneak peek of how I recently decorated a coffee table I made over.
You see, I have begun buying and selling furniture pieces recently and it is going quite well. It gets me pretty excited thinking about it and it is not only something I enjoy doing, but it is also helping my family out financially a little bit! Who doesn't love that?!

Anyways, I have another piece I am selling soon and wanted to share some pictures this week with you of how I staged our coffee table- this will be the next piece I try to sell.

In the meantime, here is a sneak peek for ya!

I hope you will come back to see the "completed" staging process.

Dining Room Placemats

Well, hello, hello!

I remember, back when I was teaching, another colleague of mine would always walk by and say "Well hello, hello!!" and do this awkward wave.
It was weird.

I digress....

Ok, that earlier bit had nothing to do with my DIY project, but I just had to share because when I opened with "Well hello, hello" it reminded me of that story.

Are you still with me?

;)

Okay, so on to today's project!

So, this is our dining room:

You know, nothing special by any means....
but workable and most importantly, functional!

I busted out some older placemats that I covered with green damask fabric.
I figured it was appropriate for Spring (and even added the cute bunny placemats that we got from my hubby's parents).
Hey, they are for the kids!

I had some left over gray zebra-ish fabric from when I recovered our dining room chair...and because of that, I wanted to use that to create a little embellishment on our existing placemats.

So the basics:
I just cut the fabric into 4 equal (or about equal) parts...
Hot glued the zebra fabric to the place mats...
and Voila! put them on the table.

And a quick before and after...because you know I love those!

You know, nothing too fancy or difficult.
It just adds a little something extra and I like that!

I hope you all have a wonderful Monday.
Thanks for stopping by!

Making a Tutorial Page

Hi friends.

Do you find it difficult to search for tutorials to change up your blog?

Man, I feel like it has been hard finding certain things to update my blog with and finally am getting around to making a link page to help me remember where to go when I need to look something up.

I am hoping this post helps you as well.

Making a Header
Next, Ashton shows us how to make a header using picmonkey...a site I wish I found out about years ago!

How to Create a Simple Navbar
Absolutely love this blog post on how to make a simple navbar for your blog. It may not be the "prettiest" navbar, but it is one you can use thru Blogger and it is free! This is what I used to make my navbar.

Resize Blogger Header Image

This blog had a good source of information on how to resize your blogger header. I used Method #2 to resize my blog header and had it stretched to fit my blog post better. This is a pretty easy step if you want to stretch your blog title/pictures to fit the screen.

Widgets and Dividers
Louise Franks is a site that my hubby found, believe it or not, and she gives some great tutorials away.

Search Box
I wanted to create a custom search box, which I inquired the help of my hubby for, so if you are looking to do that, this website has a detailed post about it.

Centering NavBar
Centering your Navbar is probably pretty important if you want things to look smooth and even on your blog. Cinsarah has a great tutorial for just that!

Adding a Custom Menu Bar
Over at Living, Laughing, and Loving blog, Renee shares a really great and detailed post about how to customize your menu bar/navigation bar. She has an easy-to-read tutorial on how to do that if you want to check it out!

Creating an Image Map for Your Blog
I absolutely loved this tutorial by Katy on how to use an image map. It may sounds complicated but once you get the hang of it, it was really quite easy to do. I used this tutorial to help make my navigation bar at the top of my blog page- under my header. This was a very useful tutorial for me!

These sites have some very useful information on how to personalize your blog and have fun with it!
I love that help like this is out there so it is possible to learn how to personalize your blog all on your own.

I hope you find this information useful as well AND
once again, thanks for stopping by!
