Our Year-Round Wreath

Hi everyone!! Happy Thursday morning to you. :)
We have a busy 2 weeks ahead of us with family and friends visiting so I will try to keep up with my posts, but I may skip a few days depending on how busy things get. We are really looking forward to spending quality time with our visitors and I can't wait until they get here to see us!! YAY!

Okay, I also wanted to share with you a new wreath I made with left-over fabric and red ribbon and a hot glue gun.

You have probably all seen many different wreaths out there either in the blog world or on pinterest. My idea came from pictures I have seen of fabric flowered wreaths on other blogs and decided to make my own. It seemed easy enough and after watching a tutorial, I got started.

Here she is!!! Our new wreath made from yarn (from the original wreath I made) and fabric.

I thought it would be a good idea to use the left-over fabric to make the flowers because these are the same fabrics in our home, so it gives things a little bit more of a consistency.

I made about 40 or so flowers (I think!) and pinned them first before gluing them onto the wreath.

I really wanted to cover up the yellow-yarned sides of the wreath. This gave me a good idea of where the flowers were going to be placed.

Eeekkk!!! I love how it turned out!

I really want to keep this wreath up for the rest of the year because I think it could easily be interchangeable with the seasons.

And here is another close-up. :)

Gray and White Striped Pillow

I have another fun DIY project to share with you today!
So I have been in love with stripes ever since I can remember. I have a few outfits that I wear with horizontal and vertical stripes and they really are some of my favorite outfits in my closet.
Right before we moved into our new home, I had been looking for new bedsheets for our room and guess what pattern we have on our pillows?

Stripes!!!!
Gray and white stripes to be exact and after 2 years, we are still in love with our sheet set. It works so well in our room and I just knew I wanted to carry that same pattern over in other parts of our home.

So how did I do this?
Well, I had been actually looking at a fabulous website called Fabric.com for navy and white wide striped fabric. There were a few on this website and the price was great, but I just couldn't actually order it online. Why?
Well, as I was brainstorming about what to do, it dawned on me that I could make my own pillow with left-over fabric from when I sewed our slipcovered bench a while back. I also had some left-over white paint on hand, painter's tape, and a paint brush. That was all the supplies needed so it was time to start.

Here is the pillow I wanted to recover.

It's not a bad-looking pillow at all, but I just wanted to add my love of stripes somewhere and this was the perfect place to start!

I just used painter's tape to tape off where I wanted the stripes to go.

I didn't really measure, just eye-balled everything before painting with my brush.

Once the paint was dried, I quickly and carefully took the painter's tape off to see my results.

Love it!!!!
What do you think?

Here it is in our kitchen nook.

This time I made sure to pull the fabric tightly because I learned my lesson from the gray floral canvas pillow I made. (you can see it in the corner there below).

So what do you think?
Do you love stripes- vertical or horizontal?

Happy Birthday Board

Before I begin today's post, I want to give a special "Happy Birthday" shout out to our baby girl who turns 1 today!!! I can't believe it really! I still can remember heading to the hospital a little before 7AM and meeting our baby girl for the first time when she was born at 2:36PM. Thankfully, it wasn't a long labor and we are so, so, so thankful for our precious gift from the Lord.

It is so crazy to me that it all happened exactly 1 year ago. We love you little one! :)

She has been walking for a few months now (and now runs around here and there) and it always amazes me how much she learns every.single.day.
Happy, Happy, Birthday!!!!!!  :)
<3
We look forward to sharing this special day with family and friends over the weekend and I will share more pictures with you next week of the celebration!!!

And now on to our little project having to do with moulding and chalkboard paint.
Over the weeked, the hubby and I bought some inexpensive moulding to put around the chalkboard wall we painted to give the dining room a little bit of a separation from the other rooms in the house.

Here are some pictures for you!

First, we had to measure out how much moulding we needed.
You will also notice that I had to erase some of the words I wrote on the chalkboard wall because the moulding was going to go right over it.

My hubby pre-hammered some nails into the moulding and then placed each one up on the wall.

In the picture below, you can see the moulding up on each side of the chalkboard wall.

What I LOVE about this wall is that I can change it to celebrate birthdays (as seen in these pictures), holidays, or other special events. :)

I also caulked around the edges of the moulding to smooth the wall out and blend it in a little bit more.

We really love our chalkboard wall and while it is a bold move for some, it really fits what we were trying to accomplish with this space- and that is to create a separation of the dining room to the other spaces.

Have you used chalkboard paint anywhere in your home?

Fresh Flowers and Nook Update {Again}

Hello, hello!! I am so glad to be able to blog about more updates in our home...more specifically updates on our kitchen nook.
I know that I update about our nook frequently, but I just can't help it. :) I didn't feel the nook was that complete until we added a mirror and some new (and inexpensive) artwork.

My hubby also bought me some beautiful flowers recently that I wanted to share. :)

And now on to some pictures of our nook.

I was inpsired by some kitchen artwork from a wonderful blogger named Emily Clark and decided to make my own art with the words "Feed" and "Nourish."

For a total of about $11.00, I was able to purchase this mirror and the 2 frames you see pictured here in these photos. I did have to lightly sand them down and paint them with chalkboard paint to add a little cohesiveness with the rest of our home.

I've gone back and forth with spray painting the mirror and frames with bronze to match the light fixture, but decided that I would just use what we had around the house to paint them. :)

In the future, I would love to get a big vase with fresh flowers of some kind to put on the table. I might also cover one of the pillow with a navy fabric to add a little more color to the space. And since blue/navy is one of my favorite colors, I think that would work quite nicely. :)

I will be back tomorrow with some other updates we have made around the house...it has to do with moulding! :)

Little Nook Updates

It's Friday, it's Friday! Yay and good morning my readers. :)

I wanted to give you a little update I made recently to our breakfast nook.
I took a trip to Target this morning, not a surprise, to buy some milk for my daughter and strolled through the clearance section once again. I was on the hunt for 1 or 2 pillows for our nook and found some for under $6.00!!!!! Score!!!!!!!!!!!! I love, love, love a good sale like that. So I got 'em and haven't recovered them yet because I like the amount of color they bring to the space.
So without further ado, here are some pictures!

To read about the light fixture, click here.
I really am loving the way it is turning out so far! Still have some more tweaking to do to the nook, but overall it's looking like a cozy spot to have coffee and breakfast in the mornings. :)

1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Live in love.

Summer Centerpieces and Pork Tenderloin with Onion Confit

It's Thursday, Thursday already! I can't believe it. My how the weeks seem to fly by now that I have a daughter who is turning 1 soon. We can't even believe that too!

Well, anyways, I wanted to share some pictures of our dining room decorated for summer with you all. A few weeks ago, I decided to take some vases we had lying around our home and paint them on the inside. I just used left over paint we had on hand to do this. I also upcycled some plastic food containers and turned them into vases.
If you are ready for some pictures, here you go!

To see more pictures of our dresser turned buffet table, click here.

We really love the hanging pictures on our wall painting. It is something that can easily be changed out with the seasons or with celebrations.
Right now it is filled with pictures of our little girl because her birthday is coming up soon! :)

Below you can see the bench I slipcovered recently. I decided to use a gray/brown fabric I had purchased a month ago at JoAnn's. It's a simple fabric, which is what I wanted.

In the future, I am going to repaint the dining room walls either Universal Khaki, Sea Salt or Comfort Gray (all are Sherwin Williams colors). Because I am still undecided about the paint colors, it makes sense to wait a little longer before making that final purchase.

And now on to a little something different.
I wanted to post about a delicious dinner I made yesterday.
It is called Pork Tenderloin with Onion Confit.

To make this dish, you need the following ingredients:

2 1/2 to 3 pounds of pork tenderloin
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
4 tablespoons butter
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 red onion, chopped
1 cup green onions, chopped
1/2 cup dessert wine
1/2 cup chicken broth
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degress. Heat oil in skillet and cook tenderloins until brown on all sides. Remove tenderloins from skillet and place on a plate to set aside. In the same skillet, melt butter and cook the yellow, red, and green onions about 15 minutes or until soft. Add wine and chicken broth and stir. Set tenderloins back in skillet on top of mixture and place in oven at 350 degress. Cook for 25-30 minutes or until meat thermometer reads 115 degrees for medium-rare.
With oven mits, remove skillet and place back on top of stove. Cook onion confit over low-medium heat until confit is thickened and add corn (optional), salt, and pepper.

This dish goes well with other sides such as salad, garlic bread, or vegetables.  :)
Enjoy!
